The Quiet Miracle of Being Alive
On longevity, detox, and remembering that your body is the original genius.
Why Wellness and Longevity actually matters? Here’s my oversimplified thesis:
The human body is the most advanced, complex, and powerful system we’ll likely never fully understand.
It’s not a machine - it’s something far more elegant. It self-repairs. It adapts. It coordinates trillions of signals and cellular instructions per second, a level of complexity we’ve yet to replicate, even with exascale computing. Your heartbeat. Your digestion. Your immune defenses. All happening right now, as you scroll.
Our biology evolved in deep symbiosis with nature - sunlight, soil microbes, seasonal changes etc. But we’ve broken that pact.
So if our bodies are this brilliant - why should we care about health and longevity at all? Shouldn’t the system just take care of itself?
That was true, once.
But the world we live in today isn’t the one our biology evolved for.
Our food is more processed and less nutrient-dense.
We’re surrounded by environmental toxins our ancestors never encountered.
We’re chronically stressed - mentally, physically, emotionally. And many of those stressors are invisible: microplastics, disrupted circadian rhythms, emotional suppression, blue light at midnight, even “wellness routines” that are secretly cortisol traps.
The body’s detox systems - your liver, kidneys, lymph, skin, gut - are remarkable, but they’re overwhelmed. And when those systems get blocked or overloaded, the supplements you pop or protocols you follow might be doing more harm than good.
You can’t biohack your way out of a burdened system.
You have to clear the load before you add more inputs.
Detox before you optimize.
How to support detox, simply and effectively (more on that in a deep dive post, but here are some tips)
Cruciferous vegetables boost glutathione and liver detox enzymes [PMID: 26349015]
Sweating (exercise or sauna) helps excrete heavy metals and phthalates [PMID: 22224302]
Deep sleep activates the glymphatic system to clear brain waste [PMID: 24136966]
Magnesium, zinc, and selenium replenish detox-critical minerals
Maintaining healthy gut microbiome (more on that later as well!)
That’s why I’m skeptical about long-term reliance on anything unnatural - yes, even the shiny new peptides or stacks that flood your algorithm. Peptides like BPC-157 (which I’ve used for gut healing), or stem-cell protocols can be effective in short, targeted windows. But I don’t believe in chronic supplementation or medicating your way into health.
What I do believe in?
Root cause thinking: not just “what should I take?” but “what is blocking my body from doing what it already knows how to do?”
Ancient rituals that stood the test of time (before science could explain why): meditation, hot-cold exposure, mineral-rich water, rest.
And mostly, listening to how your body feels, not just what a tracker says (but trackers and preventive testing are important!)
Longevity isn’t just about living longer - it’s about creating space for your body to perform its quiet miracles.
And if we needed a global reminder of why this matters, we got one in 2020.
COVID humbled us. It showed us how fragile we are—and how much stronger those with metabolic and immune health fared. Health isn’t a flex. It’s leverage.
If your body is the most powerful system on Earth, the question isn’t should you care about longevity.
It’s: how could you not?
